ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER:

Alan Lagadu was born in Jersey and is passionate about photography. His highly attractive photographs also sit as vehicles for his poetry and the combination was used to effect in his recently published book 'Isle of Avalon' from which these photographs were taken.

Alan says of his work: "A few of my carefully placed photographs can be seen as art, although photography is too specific and shows clutter grime or even humanity. The art of shooting bold shapes, colours and moods while ignoring the latter can be evocative like paintings, so why not photography? I would probably pick up a brush if I couldn't find my own style of expression through the lens. What I see, I try to convey to the viewer as an artist does. The way we perceive the world differs from one to the next."

TECHICAL NOTE: The majority of images were shot with a medium format Pentax 6x7, Rolliecord 6x6 camera and the Hasselblad 500cm camera. 35mm film was used for a small number of pictures with the Nikon F50, Contax ST and a couple with a humble Olympus Trip.

"The best pictures are shot with the simplest of equipment; it's not the camera but the photographer who creates the result! (plus the sturdiest tripod you can afford.)"

These web pages provide just a small sample of the thousands of pictures that Alan has taken over the years and all are taken from his book Jersey - 'Isle of Avalon.'
